Logan Stankoven, whom the Dallas Stars traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in the Mikko Rantanen trade, took a shot at his former club.
One of the biggest trades in recent NHL memory was swung between the Dallas Stars and the Carolina Hurricanes at the Trade Deadline on Friday.
Mikko Rantanen was traded from the Hurricanes to the Stars in exchange for Logan Stankhoven and several conditional Draft choices; Rantanen was then signed to a 5-year contract extension.
Following the trade, Stankhoven took a shot at the Stars and implied that they didn't want him.
I'm just thankful that this team wants me and is excited to have me.
He continued:
I really didn't expect this to happen. But hockey is such a business and you have to understand that as a player. That's what we kind of signed up for.
It doesn't really feel real. I think when you're in an organization for a few years and you create relationships, you know, with the other players and the staff and stuff, it's hard to leave. But starting fresh, it's a new opportunity yeah, disappointed to leave but a new opportunity and I'm really excited to be here with a team that wants me.
He's already appeared in practice for the Hurricanes and loves not only how the team plays but also Lenovo Center's reputation for being one of the louder buildings in the NHL come playoff time.
Just how much gas they play with. They forecheck hard. They compete really hard.
The building's loud. It's really fun to play in the building that really gets into it.
Stankhoven, whom the Stars took with the 47th pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, has 29 points (9G, 20A) in 59 games played this year.
He's played in 83 career games, scoring 43 points (15G, 28A).
