The 2023-24 season is right around the corner for many leagues across North America and Europe and for the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads, they're set to have a home opener to remember for quite a while.

On Thursday, the Mooseheads announced that they'll be retiring Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon's number prior to their home opener on Friday, September 22nd against the Charlottetown Islanders.

"It's a true honour to have my jersey retired by the Mooseheads. I can't wait to share this moment with everyone back home in Moose Country." MacKinnon said.

MacKinnon, 28, spent two seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads in 2011-12 and 2012-13, putting up 153 points in 102 regular season games, while adding 61 points in 34 playoff games.

In 2013, MacKinnon led the Mooseheads to a QMJHL Championship and the Memorial Cup, where they defeated the WHL's Portland Winterhawks in Final and was named MVP.
