Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon was furious that there was no call after a headshot to Ryan Lindgren from St. Louis' Zach Bolduc and was vocal about it.
Like all officials, NHL referees are human and can sometimes miss on-ice infractions. Naturally, that leads to frustration from players themselves as well as the fans.
During today's game between the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues at Ball Arena, Avalanche forward Ryan Lindgren was struck up high by Blues forward Zach Bolduc along the bench.
There was no penalty called on the play, leading to a furious reaction from Colorado's Nathan MacKinnon.
MacKinnon is the 2nd leading scorer in the NHL today with 108 points (29G, 79A), only a single point behind Tampa Bay Lightning star forward
Nikita Kucherov.
Zach Bolduc was recently fined by the NHL Department of Player Safety
Bolduc has a reputation for playing with an edge to his game, and he was recently fined by the NHL Department of Player Safety for an incident that took place last week.
Bolduc was the first to get to Blankenburg, giving him the aforementioned cross-check to the midsection as he lay on the ice. That drew a crowd of players from both sides before the officials were able to de-escalate the situation.
Will Bolduc be hearing from the NHL Department of Player Safety for his actions against Ryan Lindgren, and did MacKinnon have a case to be so incredulous toward the officials for not calling a penalty?
