Dallas Stars launch streaming service that could cost the NHL millions
The Dallas Stars have launched a free in-market streaming service for fans after parting ways with Bally Sports in recent days.
Bally Sports' parent company Diamond Sports has been dealing with financial issues since filing for bankruptcy back in March 2023 and while they're working to emerge from that, the Dallas Stars have decided to take matters into their own hands for the sake of their fan base.
It's been announced on Monday that the Dallas Stars are launching their own streaming service called Victory+, which will be free for fans in their market which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. The deal with A Parent Media Co. is for seven years, giving Stars fans some stability for viewing their team's games regionally.
"The Dallas Stars have launched a free in-market streaming service for fans called Victory+. It's a 7-year deal with A Parent Media Co. Again, if you live in Stars TV market it is now free to watch the team." Sean Shapiro of EP Rinkside said.
"After years of researching the right solution and careful planning with our partners at APMC, we're proud to announce this pioneering streaming platform that will literally change the game for sports distribution on VICTORY+," Dallas Stars President and CEO Brad Alberts said in a statement. "Our first priority has always been our fan base, and on VICTORY+ fans will be able to stream 100 percent of Stars content for free through this innovative and unique streaming platform for sports programming."
This is great news for Dallas Stars fans in the team's viewing area as they no longer have to worry about the future of regional broadcasts, which was the case with Bally Sports. The Florida Panthers have also announced a similar move, going from Bally Sports to Scripps Sports for local broadcasts.
It'll be interesting to see if any other teams that were with Bally Sports decide to do the same this summer or for the 2025-26 season. The remaining teams that are currently with Bally Sports include Anaheim, Carolina, Columbus, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis and Tampa Bay.
