Bad news out of Detroit today, as Red Wings' Andrew Copp's season appears to be over, as it is expected he will miss four to six months after successful surgery.
Copp's rehabilitation will take four to six months, which would see him back in action for the start of the 2025-26 season if all goes well.
Before the injury, Copp had played 56 games this season with 10 goals and 13 assists on 23 points. He was a valuable asset as a middle-six center and penalty killer on a Red Wings team scrapping for a playoff spot.
Copp began his NHL career in Canada with the Jets
Now with the Red Wings in his third year, Copp originally began his NHL career with the Winnipeg Jets during 2014-15. He exploded onto the big leagues in 2021-22 with a total of 21 goals for the Jets and New York Rangers.
With Copp now on the shelf, the Red Wings can look into roster upgrades. The Red Wings just shipped goaltender Ville Husso to Anaheim, creating cap space.
Copp's time on Injured Reserve gives them even more room to play with financially, which could allow Detroit to pursue another top-nine center as they attempt to put an end to an eight-year playoff absence.
