Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman has been struggling to get the franchises' two young cornerstone pieces Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider locked up to contracts with training camp quickly approaching. Red Wing fans will be estatic to learn that they have broke through on one of their RFA's, Lucas Raymond has agreed to an eight-year deal with a $8.075M AAV.
The 4th overall pick from 2020 had a breakout season during the final year of his entry level deal, scoring 31 goals and 72 points in 82 games. The 22 year old, had a previous best of 57 points during his rookie campaign in 2020-21.
Detroit keeps their salary structure intact with no player making more than captain Dylan Larkin's $8.7M AAV. Larkin is signed until the end of the 2030-31 season.
One major piece of off-season business remains for GM Steve Yzerman, signing defenceman Moritz Seider to a contract. The salary structure has been well established for Detroit but fans should rest easy knowing they have their star young forward signed and hopefully the smooth skating German will be next.
This deal comes as surprise but doesn't deviate much from the trend of betting big on young stars before they fully breakout.
