The Edmonton Oilers released an official statement to social media today after a fan suffered a medical emergency during last night's game.
Last night hockey fans were treated to a classic battle of Alberta game between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.
It was a hard-fought contest from both clubs as the game went into overtime tied at two a piece.
Luckily for the Oilers, who are pushing for the best possible position in the playoffs,
Leon Draisaitl scored the game-winner, securing the extra point for the home team.
Draisaitl also scored late in the 3rd period to force the extra frame in the first place.
That being said, the result of the game was not the most important thing to happen last night.
After all, there are many things in life more important than hockey, one of them being life itself.
Naturally, the building fell silent as the fan received medical care, eventually being taken to the hospital in the in-arena ambulance.
This evening, The Oilers released a statement addressing the incident, thanking their own medical staff and emergency personnel for handling it with care while also wishing the fan a speedy recovery.
Hopefully we will get a positive update on the status of the fan in the next few days.
Until then though Oilers fans have nine games left to look forward to starting with a game in Vegas next Tuesday before the team embarks on the classic California road trip.
The team is currently tied with the LA Kings for second in the Pacific Division on points, but LA has one game in hand, giving them an advantage.
The race could come down to the last game of the season, so be sure to tune in as each game becomes a little more critical than the last.
