Shortly after their 8th consecutive loss, the Boston Bruins have decided to place a pair of players on the waiver wire - but there is a catch.

It's a miserable time right now for the Boston Bruins, who have lost 8 consecutive games following Saturday night's 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit.
The Bruins last won a game on March 11, a 3-2 win over the divisional foe Florida Panthers (albeit without Brad Marchand, who wasn't healthy enough to play against his former club).
Following Saturday's loss, Bruins management has sent a pair of players to the waiver wire. Forwards Vinni Lettieri and Patrick Brown now have 24 hours to be claimed by one of the other 31 NHL clubs or be relegated to the American Hockey League.
However, there's a catch - thanks to post-Trade Deadline rules, they will be unable to play for their new NHL team for the rest of the year if they get claimed.
Lettieri went undrafted and signed with the New York Rangers ahead of 2017-18; he would play 4 years with the organization before signing a 1-year deal with the Anaheim Ducks in 2020 and later earned an extension with them.
He signed a 1-year deal with the Bruins for what would be the first of a pair of stints with the team; he's also played for the Minnesota Wild before returning to the Bruins after being re-acquired via trade in June 2024.
He has 30 points (14G, 16A) in 148 career NHL games.
Like Lettieri, Brown was also undrafted; he signed with the Carolina Hurricanes ahead of 2014-15 and played 3 years within the organization before signing with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2019.
Eventually placed on waivers by Vegas, he was claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers in October 2021; he was later traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2023.
He signed a 2-year deal with the Bruins 2023 and was later named the captain of the AHL's Providence Bruins.
He has 26 points (10G, 16A) in 162 NHL games.
