Last weekend, a struggling New York Islanders team hoping for new life with new coach Patrick Roy faced off against a last-chance New York Rangers core at the 2024 Stadium Series at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. The Rangers won, 6-5 in overtime, but it didn't come without some stitches.
Islanders' Alexander Romanov and Rangers' Ryan Lindgren were chasing a puck into the corner. There was contact made, and Romanov's stick got caught, flung up, and hit Lindgren in the face. The Islanders then scored afterwards on the power play, making it a 5-3 hockey game. After the play was over, Lindgren was taken off the ice and escorted out in an ambulance.
Well, Lindgren showed up for last night's game in a fishbowl and stitches under his right eye. He had a black eye as well.
Ryan kicked butt, assisting on an even strength goal by his right-hand man, Adam Fox.
This just shows you how tough hockey players actually are. Any other sport, that player would've been out months maybe the rest of the season. But not Lindgren or any other hockey player. They're the toughest athletes in the world, and what Ryan did last night just proves that even more.
