The New York Rangers are pushing hard in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race, but their chances took a hit with a recent injury to K'Andre Miller.
Late in the season, the New York Rangers are fighting for their lives, with the team needing to win almost every game and have other results go their way if they are to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Unfortunately, that didn't start well on Monday as they gave up three early goals to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and that came after the team announced that blue liner K'Andre Miller would miss a must-win game through illness.
It's unclear if Miller will miss more than one game, but given what an impact he can make on a blue line that's been needing someone to step up in a big way, this is a massive loss that could cost them any hope they have remaining this season.
In 2024/25, Miller has posted 7 goals and 23 points in 70 games played, and after flashing potential for years now, it's safe to say that's a very underwhelming stat line for a 25-year old that most people have been expecting to break out.
The Rangers currently have five games remaining after Monday, with a six point game between themselves and the Montreal Canadiens, meaning that the Rangers have very little margin for error.
Ultimately though, this is a team that hasn't gotten the best out of their young, home grown stars or their veterans this season, and while they may fall agonizingly short late in the season, this was a campaign that was lost months ago, and with the team having Stanley Cup hopes entering 2024/25, it's safe to say that this disappointing run could lead to sweeping changes in the organization.
