Three Time Stanley Cup Champion and Controversial Head Coach Linked to New York Rangers
Former NHL head coach Joel Quenneville has been linked to the New York Rangers as the team seeks a new head coach this offseason.
It did not come as much of a surprise when the New York Rangers announced that they would be parting ways with head coach Peter Laviolette.
The coach was infamously bad with the team's young players, including guys like
Filip Chytil and
Kaapo Kakko, both of whom have since been traded by the team.
This season he struggled to get the best out of any of his players as even veterans like
Mika Zibanejad and
Chris Kreider had down years.
One of the names on that list was infamous former coach Joelle Quenneville.
Quenneville was once one of the most well respected coaches in the league and his name still finds it way into the conversation whenever there is a vacant position.
Now it appears as though there may be mutual interest as a new report states that Quenneville is eyeing a return to the NHL and would love to coach for the Rangers.
"Multiple sources indicated that 66-year-old badly wants an opportunity and views New York as a coveted landing spot."
Rangers fans are already making their thoughts known on this idea.
The response is virtually unanimous in that they would prefer any of the other candidates.
The Rangers would be taking a significant risk in signing Quenneville if they do choose to go that route as it could be a PR nightmare.
After all when the Columbus Blue Jackets tried to bring Mike Babcock back to the NHL he didn't even make it to opening night.
The Rangers certainly would not want to repeat that process. It would be the last thing the team needs right now.
