Flyers reportedly seeking former 10th overall pick in deal with Ottawa
The Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers have been rumoured to be talking trade over the last week or so as Pierre Dorion looks to shed salary ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Currently, according to CapFriendly, the Ottawa Senators have $120,953 in available cap space and still need to sign restricted free agent forward Shane Pinto, which they're hoping to do before the new season begins in two weeks.
The price to take on salary is crazy right now, with it being reported that teams are wanting a first-round pick or a prospect to do so, which could make shedding salary nearly impossible.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly wanting 2021 tenth overall pick Tyler Boucher from the Ottawa Senators if Pierre Dorion wants them to take on Mathieu Joseph.
"The Philadelphia Flyers have spoken with the Senators about Joseph and are believed to be one of the teams asking for a high-priced asset to accommodate a trade. Multiple sources have told TFP's David Pagnotta the Flyers are interested in forward Tyler Boucher, whom the Senators drafted 10th overall in 2021, but Ottawa has been reluctant to consider such a move."
Boucher, 20, spent last season with the OHL's Ottawa 67s, but only appeared in 21 games after suffering a shoulder injury at the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship that required surgery.
With the Ottawa Senators set to kick off the 2023-24 season in 16 days when they face off against the Carolina Hurricanes, the team will need to get Shane Pinto under contract very soon in order for him to be ready to play come opening night. In order to do so, Pierre Dorion will need to swing a deal in the coming days to clear the cap space needed to get Pinto signed.
