Ottawa to Send GM Packing After Team Loses First-round Pick

Call it the straw that broke the camel's back. After finding out today that the team would be losing a first-round draft pick due to the botched Evgenii Dadonov trade, the Ottawa Senators have decided on a big change.

At a news conference this afternoon, the Sens will announce that Pierre Dorion has been relieved of his duties as the team's general manager. That's according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

So far, who will replace him hasn't been made clear.

Earlier today, Ottawa was informed it would have to forfeit it's earliest first round pick in one of the next three NHL drafts. The Sens traded Evgenii Dadonov to the Vegas Golden Knights in July of 2021. In March of 2022, Vegas traded Dadonov to Anaheim. However, hours later, it was announced there was an issue as Dadonov had a no-trade list that had not been given to Vegas. The 10-team list was a result of the contract Dadonov signed with the Senators, and the NHL has ruled that it was Ottawa's fault for not submitting the list to the Golden Knights. IN fact, it sounds as though Vegas asked straight up whether there were any no-trade terms, and Dorion told them no.
