John Tortorella scratches DeAngelo and apparently doesn't care what he thinks about it
Just moments ago, it was reported that Anthony DeAngelo, one of the Philadelphia Flyers' top defencemen, will be benched for the third consecutive game. Despite his offensive prowess, DeAngelo's reputation for being a liability on the defensive end and a challenging teammate has preceded him.
It seems that this is a behavior that John Tortorella, the coach, will not tolerate. Even in the final stages of the season, Tortorella to made a statement. In response to a question about DeAngelo's reaction to the decision, Tortorella stunned everyone by saying, "I haven't talked to him."
The Flyers signed DeAngelo this past offseason, under a front office that has since been entirely overhauled, with the intention of making him a regular contributor to the team. However, with Tortorella's recent decision, it's uncertain if DeAngelo will be part of the Flyers' future plans.
As the season winds down and the Flyers are in a state of turmoil, with the possibility of redirecting their rebuild under the new GM, Daniel Briere, additional information about DeAngelo's future with the team may emerge.
