Another Philadelphia Flyers speaks out about how he's been treated by John Tortorella
Flyers captain Sean Couturier says he's frustrated with how he's been treated lately by John Tortorella
The Philadelphia Flyers are set to host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night and they'll be doing so without their captain Sean Couturier.
Flyers head coach John Tortorella has decided to scratch Sean Couturier from tonight's game, 34 days after naming him the 19th captain in franchise history.
After learning he was not playing tonight, Couturier met with reporters and said that he's frustrated with how he's being treated in Philadelphia lately.
"I've been putting the work in for a while. I've been struggling, but I've been working on my game, and it's frustrating the way I've been treated around here lately. But it is what it is." Couturier said.
He went on to add, "I control what I can control. It is what it is, and I'm gonna move on.
"It doesn't matter what I think. I've got to leave my ego aside. Hopefully I can get back into [the lineup] soon."
The 31-year-old has appeared in 65 games this season for the Flyers, the most he's played in a single campaign since 2019-20. In those 65 games, he's put up 36 points (11 goals, 25 assists), 27 penalty minutes and is a minus-six.
Currently, the Philadelphia Flyers are holding onto a playoff spot by a thread, with Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals right on their heels, sitting one point back. The Flyers are looking to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and Couturier will be needed over the next several weeks to ensure that happens, so it's unlikely he'll be scratched for too many games.
