New Details Emerge Regarding Cam York's Involvement in John Tortorella's Firing

The Philadelphia Flyers swept the headlines this week with the firing of head coach John Tortorella. Associate coach Brad Shaw has stepped in on an interim basis and didn't waste any time setting up shop.

One of the biggest storylines of his opening game was having defenseman Cam York sit on the bench. While he did play in the game against the Montreal Canadiens, York didn't see one shift. In their absence of a key defenseman, the Flyers won 6-4.

After the game, Shaw confirmed that York was benched for disciplinary reasons but did not elaborate. York is likely to return to the line-up for the next game.

A source close to the team explained that there was some kind of encounter between Tortorella and York on the road trip to Toronto that sealed the fate of the coach. The source added that York and Tortorella possibly crossed the line in the incident.

York, the Flyers' best-line defenseman, has played 58 games this year with four goals and 11 assists. In his five years with the Flyers, he's tallied 75 points in 227 games.

Although Shaw is only an interim coach at this juncture, he has nine games to prove himself as the potential solution down the road. His first test was a success, but much more is ahead.
