John Tortorella was moved on by the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, and now General Manager Danny Briere addressed what led to the move so close to the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
While some were shocked by the move, Tortorella's comments in recent days made it seem like he knew this was coming, especially given how he's failed to turn this team into a playoff contender in three seasons.
Now, hours later, General Manager Danny Briere has addressed the move, and unsurprisingly, he's stated that it wasn't just one instance that led to the move, but a buildup of things over the last few months that led to the decision.
«I felt it was time. You're going to ask me is there one thing that happened, it's not one thing. It's a series of things that have happened, and probably a little bit more in the last three weeks that have escalated since trade deadline.»
Given the way that Tortorella has often worn out his welcome throughout his NHL career, it was only a matter of time until Briere and the front office decided to move on from the 66-year old veteran, but it was a move that many believed would lead to a role in the front office.
These comments from Briere however suggest that he wore out his welcome with the organization once again, and while it may be the end of his career behind the bench, there could be plenty of interest in him over the summer around the league.
