Late on Wednesday night, the Seattle Kraken made the important announcement that the team would be calling up their top prospect, Shane Wright.
Wright, still just 19 years old, was the long projected first overall pick of the 2022 Entry Draft, but ended up falling to the Seattle Kraken at fourth overall. Since then, Wright has appeared in eight NHL games, played for the Windsor Spitfires in junior, and a short stint with Seattle's AHL affiliate.
In eight games last season, Wright failed to leave an impression strong enough to burn a year from his entry level contract. Now with 4 goals and 6 points in 7 games in the AHL this year, he's proven that he deserves to be called up.
Whether Wright will be able to continue his recent offensive successes is still to be seen, but his development has been encouraging while still only being 19 years old. Hopefully for the Kraken and fans following the young forward, he can have consistent success and be a factor with Seattle as they aim to make the playoffs once again.
