Back in 2018, the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Semyon Der-Arguchintsev in the third-round of the NHL Draft, although he has spent much of his time in Russia.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a ton of prospects. Some are still in Junior, others are with the Toronto Marlies, and the rest are playing overseas.
One of those overseas players is Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, a Russian national who was selected by the Leafs in the third round of the NHL Draft in 2018.
He has spent time with the Toronto Marlies, but over the last few years, he has been playing with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL.
As it turns out, Der-Arguchintsev is about to experience a change of scenery thanks to a trade to a KHL powerhouse.
Semyon Der-Arguchintsev goes to Dynamo Moskva
The center is now going to get to play for Dynamo Moskva, which is a team with a lot of prestige and history in the Kontinental Hockey League.
Overall, this will be an interesting change of scenery for the forward, who currently has 23 points through 33 games this season.
Der-Arguchintsev had 40 points in 50 games during his last season with the Toronto Marlies three years ago, although it's clear he preferred playing in Russia.
The Leafs could choose to pick up a qualifying offer soon, but it remains to be seen whether or not that is an avenue they would actually consider.
Some players just prefer playing overseas, and if there are no NHL opportunities looming, it's not a stretch to assume he will simply go elsewhere.
This is a situation we will surely be keeping tabs on as the NHL season goes on.
