William Nylander comments on new contract extension: 'This is home'
Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander has commented on his new contract extension.
Toronto Maple Leafs fans can breathe a little easier on Monday. After six months of being eligible to sign an extension, William Nylander put pen-to-paper on an eight-year deal worth a total of $92 million.
After the Maple Leafs announced the deal on their social media, Nylander and General Manager Brad Treliving met with reporters to discuss the extension.
Nylander told members of the media that 'this is home' and his dream would be to win the Stanley Cup and retire as a Toronto Maple Leaf.

Brad Treliving said to reporters that they knew they would get a deal done and that Nylander wanted to remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs for a very long time.
"I don't think there was ever a time where we felt we weren't going to get to the finish line.... The player ultimately wanted to be here. We wanted the player. So, you find a way."
It was unclear what the average annual value of Nylander's contract would have looked like if he didn't wait to sign, but his patience certainly paid off in the long run. Nylander currently leads the Maple Leafs in points with 54 and given his importance to the roster, there was no way that Brad Treliving could let him walk at the end of the 2023-24 season.
