The Toronto Maple Leafs are taking on the Colorado Avalanche today, and there is some confusion over why the Leafs have such an odd start time.
Today is a huge game for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they take on the Colorado Avalanche, all while looking to draw closer to a playoff spot.
As it stands, the Maple Leafs are five points away from becoming a playoff team, which is not acceptable to most fans out there.
A poor start to the season has taken the wind out of the team's sails. Whether or not things get any better for them, remains to be seen.
With that in mind, today's game against the Avalanche is an interesting one, especially when you consider how it starts at 1:30 PM.
Why are the Leafs starting at 1:30 PM?
Accoridng to Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun, there is a very good reason for why the Maple Leafs are starting so early.
There are some massive NFL games today, and the NHL simply doesn't want to go head-to-head with the biggest weekend of the football season.
Tall order for erratic Leafs to beat Avs twice in two weeks, but they've yet to win on a 5-game homestand. The unusual 1:30 start appears to be a mix of the condensed Olympic sked, a wish to stay clear of NFL games and a good start time in Europe for a new NHL broadcast partner.
Whether or not the Leafs will be ready to go for this weekend game is something that remains to be seen.
With that in mind, there is no denying that the Leafs are in a tough situation, and the expectation will be for them to perform.
If they can't, then their playoff deficit will only get worse, much to the chagrin of Leafs fans everywhere.
