In 2025, the Toronto Maple Leafs took forward Tyler Hopkins in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft, and now, the forward has been traded.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a lot of prospects traded over the past few weeks, including Ben Danford and Sam McCue.
On Saturday, their third round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, Tyler Hopkins, was traded from the Kingston Frontenacs to the Guelph Storm.
General Manager George Burnett announced today that the Guelph Storm have acquired Maple Leafs prospect Tyler Hopkins from the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for forward Alex McLean and picks.
There has been a lot of OHL movement this season, and particularly over the past few weeks. The World Juniors are happening, and teams are making moves.
As for Hopkins, he is a player with tremendous upside. He currently has 25 points in 29 games and has shown himself to be a solid forward.
Not to mention, he was a standout with the Leafs during the most recent rookie camp. It's clear that in a few years, he could be with the Toronto Marlies.
The Maple Leafs are starving for some young and talented prospects for the next generation, and Hopkins is part of that.
At the end of the day, the OHL is a league where players are being moved all the time, so there is no use in analyzing why this move was made.
Either way, the Guelph Storm is getting a solid player who is certainly excited for a change of scenery to end his OHL Career.
We will continue to track the progress of Hopkins as he looks to show the Maple Leafs why he must remain with the organization.
