Toronto Maple Leafs send 24-year-old defenseman back to the AHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs are starting to get healthy again, and with Brandon Carlo looking to make a return, one young defenseman is going back to the AHL.
If there is one thing that has plagued the Toronto Maple Leafs to start the season, it has been injuries to the offense, defense, and goalies.
Brandon Carlo and Dakota Mermis are currently out of the lineup with injuries, although based on reporting from yesterday, Carlo is closer than ever to a return.
This is certainly going to impact the roster, especially when it comes to defenseman who have been scratches for the majority of games.
One of those defensemen is 24-year-old Henry Thrun, who was traded to the Leafs from the San Jose Sharks during the Summer.
Henry Thrun goes back to the AHL
According to the Toronto Maple Leafs' official PR account, Thrun is going back down to the Toronto Marlies today. Not a surprise given the fact that he barely played.
One has to wonder what this means for Thrun's future in Toronto, especially when you consider how he is getting less NHL time than he did with the Sharks.
As for Brandon Carlo, it remains to be seen what this roster move will mean for his return. This could very well suggest that Carlo will play tonight against the Detroit Red Wings.
Of course, this is mostly conjecture. We will only know what's next for Carlo closer to game time, as the Leafs are unlikely to have a morning skate.
Whatever the case may be, the Maple Leafs had to make a difficult decision, and Thrun must now try to work his way back to the big leagues.
These setbacks are never easy for a young player, but at the end of the day, this is a decision that had to be made.
