Auston Matthews' controversial equipment change finally has an explanation

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews made a huge equipment change recently, and it has led to a whole lot of speculation on the internet.
For the last few years, Auston Matthews has been wearing CCM everything. From gloves to sticks, Matthews was loving CCM.
However, over the past year and a half, he has struggled to score goals. While no one thought it was equipment-related, there is no doubt that Matthews was feeling himself in a rut.
After missing some time due to injury, Matthews came back with a noticeable difference. Instead of wearing CCM, he was wearing Bauer.
This became a big story, and many were trying to figure out why the captain would opt to make such a big change at this stage of his career.
Auston Matthews continues to wear Bauer
Well, as it turns out, hockey commentator Jeff Marek seems to know exactly why the Maple Leafs superstar opted to do this.
Simply put, he does not have an endorsement deal right now, and is a free agent. He is interested in Bauer, and is giving them a chance.
For everyone who reached out at Auston Matthews wearing Bauer gear - as I understand he is without a deal and exploring Bauer. We'll see what happens.

This change worked out for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, as Auston Matthews finished the game with a goal and an assist.
Still, the captain has struggled this season, relatively speaking. He has just 17 points in 20 games this season, which is not good enough for a superstar.
Regardless, perhaps the Bauer equipment will eventually start working for him. Leafs fans can only hope.
