Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews has received a bit of flak for his job as team captain, although a win against the Panthers has changed minds.

Auston Matthews has been heavily criticized at times for his ambivalence as captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. His leadership isn't always apparent, and when the team is losing, the media notices.
It was a bit of a slap in the face, and it had Leafs fans reflecting about what Matthews has done so far with the team, and how he has mostly been disappointing.
That said, the Leafs have since won two games in a row, and after a win against the Florida Panthers, Matthews is giving people a reason to re-evaluate.

Auston Matthews speaks on the Maple Leafs' latest success

Following the 5-1 victory, Matthews made some comments that have opened some eyes, as he showcased just how much he cares about the team.
He spoke about the team rallying on this road trip, and how this is a time to bring the guys together, and up their confidence with a home stand coming up.
I think it's always nice to kind of get out on the road I don't think we've really had an opportunity to go on a road trip like this so far this season like I said, you get a couple of big wins, and it's amazing what that does for your confidence. We just want to keep that momentum rolling.
On Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to play the Carolina Hurricanes, and these comments could resonate in the locker room.
From there, they get the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, in what will be an important rivalry game that the Leafs will be eager to win.
Hopefully, Matthews can keep up the leadership, and prove all of his doubters wrong, once and for all.
