Barry Trotz's exit from Nashville is causing a stir in Toronto this morning.

Barry Trotz is a legend within the Nashville Predators franchise, and for good reason. He took the team to the Stanley Cup playoffs on numerous occasions, and he was the coach for many years.

However, when he became the general manager of the franchise, the tide began to turn in a very negative direction. As you probably know, his tenure as GM has been a disaster.

He has made some pretty awful moves, and over the past couple of seasons, this team has been nowhere close to the playoffs.

With that being said, just one month before the trade deadline, Trotz made the difficult decision to step down from his post as GM.

This was a courageous decision, and according to Elliotte Friedman, he will remain in the role until he is able to find someone who can replace him.

Overall, it is a pretty sad moment for the franchise, although numerous teams around the league will keep their eyes open, including the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Trotz may not be a stout GM, but he can still coach at a high level. After all, he has a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals from back in 2018.

Having said that, if the Toronto Maple Leafs end up moving on from head coach Craig Berube, there is a real shot that Trotz could be available.

He would be a great coach for Auston Matthews, just like he was a great coach for Alexander Ovechkin during that championship season.

It would certainly be a tough call for the Maple Leafs, but who knows, it might just be the move that makes the most sense.
