There is a sense that Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Brandon Carlo could be on his way out at the NHL trade deadline, and a destination has popped up.
Brandon Carlo is a defenseman who was trade bait for the Boston Bruins last season, and now, he finds himself in the same position with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The defenseman has made it clear that he wants to stay in Toronto. He said as much after a win against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
However, Carlo has tremendous trade value, and there are various teams out there who would love to trade for his services.
The price for Carlo could be higher than expected, and with the Maple Leafs looking to sell off assets for draft capital at the NHL trade deadline, Carlo is seen as trade bait.
Where is Brandon Carlo going?
According to Darren Dreger, there are some teams out there who are looking for a right-shot defenseman to bolster their blue line.
One of those teams is none other than the Detroit Red Wings, who are currently near the top of the Atlantic Division standings.
I think of the Red Wings as being a team that's really looking for a right shot D right now
Considering the Red Wings stand in the way of the Leafs making the postseason, it stands to reason that fans would object to such a move.
However, this should not be a surprise to anyone. The Red Wings have a lot to offer the Maple Leafs, and Brad Treliving will be taking note.
That said, Carlo remains one of the unlikelier players to be traded, as he has shown tremendous promises playing on a pairing without Morgan Rielly.
