Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving spoke to the media on Tuesday about the firing of Marc Savard and the future of head coach Craig Berube.
He was responsible for the team's power play, and they were ranked dead last in the league. With a 13 percent conversion rate, it makes sense for Savard to be the fall guy.
As for head coach Craig Berube, his job appears to be safe right now, but there is no denying that he needs to turn things around; otherwise, it could get ugly.
Brad Treliving speaks on Marc Savard
On Tuesday, general manager Brad Treliving spoke to the media as the Leafs prepared to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in a rare 4 PM game.
It was here that the GM was asked about the firing of Savard. As he explains, the team has no interest in piling on the assistant coach. Instead, everyone has to pick themselves up and be better.
As for Craig Berube and his future with the franchise, it would appear as though that is set in stone. Treliving is throwing his support behind the head coach, and they are leaving it at that.
The Maple Leafs are currently last in the Eastern Conference standings, which is a huge problem, and something that the Leafs need to turn around immediately.
Of course, tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins serves as the perfect opportunity to do just that. However, they need to win by any means necessary.
The Christmas break begins after today's game, and on Saturday, the Leafs will return to action for a quick Saturday and Sunday back-to-back.
