Toronto Maple Leafs fire controversial coach after weeks of anticipation

Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to fire a coach within the organization, although it wasn't the head coach, Craig Berube.
There were a lot of Toronto Maple Leafs fans expecting the team to fire head coach Craig Berube today after a disastrous road trip.
In the end, the Leafs did fire a coach, but it was not Berube. Instead, they have parted ways with Marc Savard, who has done a terrible job with the power play.
The Leafs are 12/90 this season, which is a 13.33 percent conversion rate. That is absolutely unacceptable for a team with Auston Matthews and William Nylander.

At the end of the day, you cannot have your team converting power plays at 13 percent. That was good enough for dead last in the league, and something needed to change.
Some may see Savard as a scapegoat for a larger issue, but this is absolutely a good place to start considering where the Leafs were previously.
Sometimes, you need to make a move to send a message and fire up the team, and this could do just that. Although for now, a replacement has not been named.
Toronto Maple Leafs look to bounce back
On Tuesday, the Maple Leafs will be back in action against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the expectations for a win are going to be high.
If the Leafs cannot make it happen, then there are going to be a lot of angry fans out there, and for very good reason, all things considered.
While firing Savard may not immediately fix the issue, it at least shows that the Maple Leafs are committing themselves to trying something new.
If things continue to go south, we imagine that is when the Leafs will decide to fire Berube as well.
