In the eyes of many, this firing was long overdue. Savard's work on the power play had mostly been abysmal, and it was time for some changes to be made.

Craig Berube and Brad Treliving contradict each other
Earlier today, when asked who would be taking over the Maple Leafs' power play, Treliving came out and said that it would be assistant Derek Lalonde.
However, when asked the exact same question, Berube said the responsibility would fall on the shoulders of the staff. Clearly, there is a disconnect here.
This is one of those situations that can truly be a detriment to the team, as management and the coaching staff are on two different wavelengths.
Overall, this cannot be good for the short-term or long-term health of the Toronto Maple Leafs. There is a lot of disarray, and it feels like things are in a bad spot.
The Maple Leafs are playing the Pittsburgh Penguins today, and this is a game that could set a huge precedent for 2026.
If you are a fan of the team, you can't help but feel a bit dejected right now, as this Leafs team continues to show a lack of maturity everywhere in the organization.
Only time will tell whether or not relationships can be repaired, and if the coaching staff can compose themselves with the season on the line.
