On Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs fired assistant coach Marc Savard, and now, insider Pierre LeBrun has the scoop on what the Leafs plan to do next.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have the worst power play in the league with a conversion rate of just 13 percent. Marc Savard was in charge of the power play, and as a result of this incompetence, he was ultimately fired.
Overall, it was a difficult decision for the Maple Leafs to make, especially since most felt as though the scapegoat was going to be head coach Craig Berube.
Instead, Savard got the boot, and there has been all sorts of speculation concerning who will replace him. After all, there is now a void on the Maple Leafs' bench.
The team is playing against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday, and there isn't much of a turnaround for them to make a change.
Who is replacing Marc Savard?
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Leafs aren't interested in adding to the coaching staff right now. Instead, they are just going to leave the Savard firing as is.
Doesn't sound like the Leafs are bringing in someone to replace Marc Savard for the moment. Going to go in house for now. Obviously that's subject to change.
LeBrun did note that the Maple Leafs could change their minds and bring someone in. Bruce Boudreau has shown interest in becoming a coach for the Leafs.
Having said that, we are in the middle of the Holidays, so it is probably best for the Maple Leafs to just let this all settle down before hiring someone new.
If one thing is for certain, it is that this team's weak start to the season has created some major problems for the franchise, and it's hard to imagine things getting any better.
Going into tonight's game, the Leafs find themselves around the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Perhaps a win could get some momentum going.
