Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube is speaking out following the acquisition of right-handed defenseman Troy Stecher off waivers.

On Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Troy Stecher off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers in a move that impressed a lot of fans.
Stecher is a right-handed defenseman who can actually move the puck, which is something the Maple Leafs desperately need right now.
Defensemen like Philippe Myers are not getting the job done right now, and as a result, the Maple Leafs have had to take action in the absence of a trade.

Craig Berube gives his thoughts on Troy Stecher

On Sunday, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube broke his silence on the Stecher acquisition and revealed what he likes about the player.
As Berube explains, Stecher is a competitive guy, and the fact that he is a right-handed shot is something that truly helps out the team in a big way.
He's a right-hand shot. Very competitive player. You know, been around, got experience, but more so than anything, just getting that right-hand shot. He's a competitive guy. He really is - and he has to be. But like I said, we were looking for another D, and the right-hand shot was what we needed.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking at another right-handed defenseman right now in Rasmus Andersson, although there is no guarantee that the team gets that done.
Andersson is wishy-washy on whether or not he actually wants to be traded, and this has left the Leafs in a tough situation, where it is ambiguous as to whether or not they can acquire him.
If one thing is for certain right now, it is that this team needs more offense from its blueline; otherwise, it is going to continue to lose games.
At a record of 8-9-2, and a five-game losing streak in tow, the Leafs absolutely need to get something done here, even if it costs a lot of assets.
