Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson is being linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs right now, although it remains unclear if and when he will be traded.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to Rasmus Andersson since the summer, although the rumors have never been louder than they are right now.
There is a very good reason for all of this. The Maple Leafs are desperate for a right-handed puck-moving defenseman, and Andersson ticks those two boxes.
He is a solid player, and one that would help the Leafs right away. Having said that, the defenseman has a no-trade clause, and it has proven difficult to get him to waive it.
Rasmus Andersson trade rumors run rampant
According to Elliotte Friedman, Andersson can't make up his mind right now. The defenseman is constantly flip-flopping between wanting a trade and wanting to stay.
Of course, this has been frustrating for the Calgary Flames, who just want to know what is really going on with the defenseman. Although for the Leafs, it is equally frustrating.
I've heard he kinda goes ups and downs about what he wants to do, I think that there are days he's like I'm ready to move on, there's other days he's like I kinda like it here
At this stage of the game, there is no telling whether or not Andersson is going to be dealt before the trade deadline, and if whoever trades him signs him to an extension.
The Maple Leafs would love to get something done, especially as they continue this pathetic five-game losing streak that has fans in absolute anger.
General Manager Brad Treliving is ready to do business, and getting a deal done with his former team could certainly boost the morale within the Leafs' front office.
With that in mind, these next few weeks are going to be fascinating to watch. Only time will tell if the Leafs can get a trade done.
