Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube made a healthy scratch decision against the Buffalo Sabres that feels like a bit of a slap in the face.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, there is no denying that this season has been extremely difficult and downright torturous to watch.
There haven't been many reasons to cheer, especially during this recent stretch where the Leafs have lost a ton of games in a row.
Having said that, the Leafs are playing the Buffalo Sabres tonight, and a win could mark the reversal of a pretty damning trend.
The lineup has been revealed, and unfortunately, it contains a healthy scratch to a player whom the fans have been eager to see.
Craig Berube takes out Jacob Quillan
That player is Jacob Quillan, who has not been given much runway to show what he can do with the Maple Leafs this season.
He is always the first forward the team thinks to call up, yet he always draws the shortest straw when it comes to actually being put in the lineup.
He has played four games with the Maple Leafs this season, and five in total. He has zero points to show for it, but it is not due to a lack of talent.
Quillan is averaging a point per game in the AHL. Unfortunately, that just isn't enough for Berube, who is giving the playing time to the struggling Calle Jarnkrok.
The Maple Leafs need an inspiring lineup if they want to start actually winning some hockey games, going forward.
Jacob Quillan is someone who can inject some of that energy, but as it turns out, he is not being given the opportunity to do so.
