Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll struggled against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and now, his status against the Winnipeg Jets is confirmed.
Joseph Woll let in six goals on 33 shots against the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, which is not the performance the team needed.
At this point in the season, the Leafs need their goalies to carry them, especially with one of the final Wild Card playoff spots on the line.
Tonight, the Leafs are going up against the Winnipeg Jets, and on Monday, the team is playing against the Minnesota Wild. With that in mind, head coach Craig Berube had to make a tough choice.
Dennis Hildeby starts against the Winnipeg Jets
Having said that, Dennis Hildeby will be the netminder getting the start tonight, despite allowing six goals against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.
For Hildeby, this is going to be an opportunity to bounce back, while also showing Berube that he can be trusted over the long haul.
The Leafs need a win, and a strong Hildeby performance could be what puts the Leafs over the edge going forward.
As for Joseph Woll, he will have a chance to redeem himself on Monday against the Wild, who are another good Central Division team.
It is going to be a fascinating stretch for the Maple Leafs, who need to show everyone that they really can make the NHL postseason.
They are two points out of a Wild Card spot, which realistically isn't all that bad. A win tonight could put them back in that race.
It's a stressful time of the season, and Berube's latest decision involving Woll and Hildeby certainly proves that to be the case.
