Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was asked about the now-infamous middle finger from William Nylander, which led to an NHL fine.
William Nylander made headlines for all of the wrong reasons this past Sunday when he decided to flash the middle finger to the camera.
As a result of this little maneuver, Nylander was given a $5000 fine and a whole lot of public embarrassment that is well-deserved.
At the end of the day, Nylander needs to be better than this. He is a leader on the team, and the guys expect a whole lot more out of him.
Having said that, some wanted to see how head coach Craig Berube would react to all of this, especially considering his no-nonsense attitude.
Craig Berube on the William Nylander debacle
Surprisingly, Berube was quite chill about the whole thing, and refused to make a big deal out of it, even though he easily could have.
Made a mistake. He owned up to it. Things happen. People make mistakes. Players make mistakes. Coaches make mistakes. It happens. He knows it's wrong.
Needless to say, Nylander is getting away with a lot here. A $5000 fine certainly isn't a lot, given what went down and how much he makes.
Now, the Leafs can just forget about all of this and move on with their lives. Everyone will feel a whole lot better if that is the case.
Of course, the Leafs would much rather Nylander not put them on the National news for stupidities like this.
Overall, there is a lot the Leafs can learn from this situation. Now, they need to focus on the hockey.
