Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf has been a free agent for just one day, and he already has a new contract with an NHL team.
David Kampf was put on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, and since that time, the NHL forward has been looking for a new home.
On Friday, his contract was terminated, which officially turned him into a free agent. 24 hours later, he has a new NHL home.
Kampf just signed a one-year deal worth $1.1 million with the Vancouver Canucks, one of six Canadian rivals to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Vancouver Canucks are a team that has been lacking some center depth, so it makes sense that Kampf would sign with them.
Just yesterday, the Canucks were considered one of three finalists alongside the likes of the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
However, it's clear that the Canucks offered Kampf the best chance to play right away, which was a huge reason for why he left Toronto, in the first place.
The end of David Kampf in Toronto
After being a healthy scratch for much of last season's playoffs, Kampf found himself in the AHL to start the season, which is not what he wanted.
As a result, he demanded to be moved. The Leafs couldn't trade him, so they worked on a solution instead. Now, Kampf is across the country.
It remains to be seen how this will work for both sides. However, we imagine the Leafs aren't going to think too hard about it.
After all, they are on a four-game losing streak, and have a lot better things to worry about at this point.
