Toronto Maple Leafs claim 31-year-old defenseman off waivers

With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to fix their defense, the team has decided to claim defenseman Troy Stecher off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently in the midst of a four-game losing streak, and tonight, they will look to snap that streak against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Moments ago, the team attempted to improve its roster by claiming a defenseman off waivers. That defenseman just so happens to be Troy Stecher.
Stecher has played six games for the Edmonton Oilers this season and was placed on waivers just yesterday. Today, the Leafs figured it was right to make their move.
Troy Stecher has played 566 games in his career and has only 22 goals and a total of 117 points. It's not the best offensive track record, but it's something.
Stecher had been struggling for playing time with the Oilers, and with the injuries piling up for the Leafs, Stecher could get himself an opportunity.
Not to mention, Philippe Myers has not been very good, which has led some to wonder if he would get replaced sometime soon.
Maple Leafs take on the Chicago Blackhawks
Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs will look to snap a four-game losing streak against the Chicago Blackhawks. If they can't make that happen, fans are going to be livid.
As for Stecher, it remains to be seen whether or not he is going to be able to crack the lineup anytime soon. It is very unlikely he plays tonight.
With that in mind, fans have every reason to be excited about this acquisition, as it means the Leafs are actually looking to make a serious attempt at improving the roster.
Whether or not Stecher's addition makes any impact at all, still very much remains to be seen.
