Former Toronto Maple Leafs Forward Passes Away at 38 Years Old
The hockey community is in mourning right now as one of its greatest fighters, and a one-time member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, has passed away.
When you think of symbols of strength in the hockey world, Wade MacLeod certainly has to come to your mind immediately.
We say that because back in 2013, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, yet still managed to play through it following invasive surgery.
In 2013, he made a brief stop with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, where he played 35 games with the Toronto Marlies.
He would subsequently go on to play in the ECHL, Germany, and even the EIHL after a seven-year hiatus. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated and he had to retire.
Wade MacLeod was beloved by the hockey world
Today, it was revealed that MacLeod passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 38 years old.
The ECHL put out a statement about MacLeod, showcasing just how beloved he was by the hockey world.

The ECHL and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of former ECHL player Wade MacLeod, who passed away following a long battle with brain cancer at the age of 38.
MacLeod had 108 points (57g-51a) in 104 career ECHL games with Evansville (2012-13), Orlando (2013-14), Idaho (2014-15) and Allen (2016-17). He also saw extensive time in the American Hockey League with Springfield and Toronto, while playing overseas for teams in Germany and the United Kingdom.
He is survived by his wife, Karly, and their two daughters.

This is a terrible tragedy, and we cannot imagine what his family is going through at this time.
We hope that the hockey community remembers him for the courageous battle he fought every single day.
