Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz has been dealing with an injury, and according to Jeff O'Neill, this has created a real problem for him.
Anthony Stolarz is a goaltender who helped the Maple Leafs win the Atlantic Division last season, with some truly impressive stats.
Unfortunately, since that fateful season, Stolarz has struggled mightily. The goaltender was not great to start the season, and an injury has compromised him further.
Since returning to the Maple Leafs lineup, goaltender Joseph Woll has stepped up in a big way, and while he is now injured as well, he should be back before Stolarz.
With that in mind, reality is starting to set in for Stolarz, and according to Jeff O'Neill, things are not looking particularly good for the netminder.
Jeff O'Neill isn't so sure about Anthony Stolarz
During a segment on TSN 1050, O'Neill made the argument that Stolarz is going to be shelved as the backup goalie by the time he comes back.
Why? Well, it's because the Toronto Maple Leafs are playing extremely well with Joseph Woll on the ice. Woll has been good, and Stolarz hasn't been. This could lead to a huge decision from head coach Craig Berube.
If you are Anthony Stolarz, you can't help but feel like this was a worst-case scenario. The Leafs can move on from you just as easily as they give you the accolades.
Stolarz was the starter in the postseason last year, but this year, if the Leafs make it that far, it looks like Woll would get to start.
There are still over 50 games left to be played this season, and we are eager to see how all of this plays out.
With that in mind, the Leafs would love for Stolarz to return soon and prove people like O'Neill wrong. That way, the Leafs can finally get their tandem back.
