Jake McCabe Finally Tells the Truth About the Maple Leafs Winning the Atlantic Division
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe was asked about the team winning the Atlantic Division and it led to a very honest answer that fans can appreciate.
Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the New York Rangers by a score of 4-3 and it was a game that the team needed to win to stay in the hunt for the Atlantic Division.
With the Florida Panthers defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets in overtime on Thursday, the Leafs and Panthers are now tied with 87 points and have identical records.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning have a game in hand and are two points back which proves that this is a three-team race right about now.
Jake McCabe on the Atlantic Division race
Over the past few weeks, Maple Leafs players have been modest when asked about winning the Atlantic Division and these answers haven't seemed super genuine.
However, defenseman Jake McCabe told the truth last night as reporters continued to ask about the Atlantic Division fight.
In the eyes of McCabe, this is important because you always want to be number one in what you do and it is also important to get home ice advantage.
"It's important. I mean, we're right there, and we've been right there all year. Home ice in the playoffs. And you always want to come in first, no matter what you do. So, this is no different."
At the end of the day, it is not going to be easy to win the division especially with some Stanley Cup winning teams in the fight.
However, if the Leafs can win out to finish off the season, they will be heading into the playoffs with a ton of confidence and that could go a very long way in making sure they are able to exercise the demons of past years.
Three wins in a row is a pretty good start and with the Nashville Predators coming up on Saturday, the team has a great opportunity to make it four.
