Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll will not return to tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes after suffering a lower-body injury.
After turning aside 22 out of 23 shots in two periods against the Carolina Hurricanes, Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll will not be out on the ice for the third period.
According to the team, he has suffered a lower-body injury. This is all we know right now, and presumably, it will take some time before we know the full nature of the injury.
It is unclear when Woll injured himself, as the goaltender finished the period. However, once he got to the locker room, it was decided that he would not finish the game.
Fans are hopeful that this was done as a precautionary measure and that the injury isn't serious in any way, shape, or form.
However, if it is a serious injury, then the Maple Leafs are in a whole lot of trouble. Anthony Stolarz is already injured, and there is no return for him in sight.
The Leafs would then have to rely on Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov, which is not the tandem you want when you are trying to make the playoffs.
Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes
At the time of writing this, the Maple Leafs are beating the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 4-1. It has been a great game for the Leafs, and the Woll injury has certainly sullied the mood.
If the Leafs can finish out this game, they will have won three games in a row against three pretty good teams. Unfortunately, losing your goalie can ruin that momentum.
For now, the Leafs fanbase is just going to have to keep the faith and hope that everything turns out all right going forward. There is still a chance it's not a bad injury.
Our thoughts are with Woll, and we are wishing him a speedy recovery.
