Leafs coach Craig Berube ripped to shreds by his former player for becoming soft

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has been under lots of scrutiny this season, and even his former players with the St. Louis Blues are weighing in.
Last season, Craig Berube was spoken about with reverence amongst Maple Leafs fans. He helped the team win the Atlantic Division, and he was also partially responsible for the team's impressive postseason run.
Unfortunately, this season is off to a rough start, and with the Leafs in seventh place in the Atlantic Division, there are some who are already planning for the coach's firing.
It is a stark contrast to what happened last season, and there is no telling whether or not the Leafs will be able to get out of this funk. Either way, fans and the media are looking towards Berube for leadership.
After all, when Berube was hired, it was said that his fiery demeanor and no-nonsense attitude would help the Leafs change their mentality and become a more competitive team. That said, it does appear as though the Leafs may have been misled about what Berube is really like.
Craig Berube facing a tough road ahead with the Toronto Maple Leafs
While appearing on "Real Kyper & Bourne," St. Louis Blues reporter Jeremy Rutherford revealed a conversation he had with Oskar Sundqvist.
It was here that Sundqvist revealed Berube's softening approach over the years. While he was a hard-nosed guy when he got to St. Louis, he eventually softened quite a bit, and now, that mentality is showing in Toronto.
I remember talking to Oskar Sundqvist -- he had said that when Craig Berube came in and won the Stanley Cup, that Craig Berube was intimidating and that what he said, you listened to every word. Over the years he seemed to soften a little bit and that they didn't look at him the same way than when he came in.
This is very bad news for the team. With the way the Leafs are playing, they need someone who is going to call them out when they aren't playing well.
Although Berube has had quite a bit to say as of late, he still hasn't been the guy that Leafs fans have known him to be, and this is causing some real issues.
If Berube can't find that passion and that fire, then this Leafs team is in real trouble. Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs find their way again, or find themselves looking to tank.
