Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews is currently dealing with an injury, and on Wednesday, head coach Craig Berube gave an update on the captain.
Auston Matthews' injury issues are still ravaging the Toronto Maple Leafs right now, and it is proving to be a massive problem for the team.
The forward has missed about a week of action so far, and there have been fears that the captain could miss even more time thanks to this lower-body issue.
While the Leafs did snap a five-game losing streak on Tuesday, they would still love to have Matthews in the lineup, especially with the offense he generates.
On Thursday, the Leafs are taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets, and this is a game that the team absolutely needs to win in order to get some momentum going.
Craig Berube offers an update on Auston Matthews
Wednesday, head coach Craig Berube spoke to the media, where he was asked about Matthews' status heading into the weekend slate.
According to Berube, while Matthews is starting to feel better, no one should expect him to be in the lineup on Thursday.
Matthews is coming along. Like, he's improving. Obviously he won't play tomorrow
This is disappointing news, and we're sure there are some fans out there who aren't going to take too kindly to all of this. However, you never want to rush players back.
There is a chance we do get to see Matthews next week, but no one should expect him before that. Instead, the Leafs will have to rely on depth.
The Blue Jackets are going to be hungry on Thursday night, but with the Leafs playing at home, maybe they can get the crowd behind them.
