Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly is in the midst of a decent season with the team, but general manager Brad Treliving could be looking to make a move.
Morgan Rielly is someone who was reportedly on the trading block last season. Or, at the very least, conversations were being had behind the scenes.
Of course, the veteran defenseman has a no-movement clause. However, he costs a lot of money, and his defensive play has been lacklustre at best.
Last season, Rielly's offence took a hit as well, and he became the team's whipping boy, especially in the media. It's why there were reports that Leafs GM Brad Treliving spoke to Rielly about a trade in the offseason.
Will the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Morgan Rielly?
Now, the Maple Leafs are in last place in the Eastern Conference, and there is a real sense that they could be forced to re-tool and make a big move.
According to insider David Pagnotta, everything is on the table, and Morgan Rielly's name is starting to make some waves around the league.
The one guy that I started to hear his name over the last week, and it might just simply be nothing out of this one because he has a full no move, but Morgan Rielly
While there is no guarantee that the Leafs will be able to move Rielly, especially with his no-move clause, it seems like Treliving is interested in making the move happen.
Morgan Rielly stats: the good and the bad
In 21 games this season, Morgan Rielly has three goals and 14 assists for 17 points, which is a lot better than his pace from last season.
Unfortunately, he continues to be a disappointment on the defensive end. He is a -6 this season, and is a -29 for his entire career, which isn't acceptable for a player of his calibre.
Given the good and the bad, the Maple Leafs have to make a decision about whether or not the juice is worth the squeeze. If a re-tool is coming, that might be the end of Rielly in Toronto.
