Darnell Nurse for Morgan Rielly trade proposal is leaving Maple Leafs fans divided

This season has been a nice return to form for Morgan Rielly, at least when it comes to offense. While he is a -3 on the season, he does have 16 points in 19 games, which is a solid statline if we have ever seen one.'

Meanwhile, Darnell Nurse has been having a nightmare season with the Edmonton Oilers. He is a -7 right now, and he has nine points in 22 games, which is not good enough.

Nurse currently makes $9.25 million per season, while Rielly makes an average of $7.5 million per season. Arguably, only one of these players is living up to their deal, while the other continues to struggle.

Regardless, it appears as though both players are on the trading block right now, and there are all sorts of proposals making their way to social media.

For instance, one fan suggested a one-for-one deal in which the Oilers trade Nurse to the Maple Leafs for Rielly. The Oilers would also retain $875K in salary, so that the exchange of contracts is even.

While you might think that this is an intriguing trade, it appears as though fans of both teams were not particularly impressed with what they were reading.

As you can see from the reactions on X, Leafs fans hated the deal because Rielly is playing a whole lot better than Nurse right now. Meanwhile, Oilers fans hated this because the team needs right-handed defensemen.

For now, it remains to be seen if and when both of these players will be traded. Although it does feel like a Nurse trade is a lot more likely given Rielly's no-movement clause.

The Leafs are a bit reluctant to make big swings right now, even if their performance so far this season has been less than acceptable.
