Just moments ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to call up a prospect goaltender, just days after Anthony Stolarz tweaked his upper body against the Bruins.
Over the past few games, the Toronto Maple Leafs' goaltending tandem has been Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby, with Hildeby getting playing time in three straight games.
On Tuesday, Stolarz got the start against the Boston Bruins, but went down with an injury in the first period and had to be replaced by Hildeby.
Since that time, there has been some uncertainty surrounding Stolarz and whether or not he would be available to play tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.
Well, based on a recent roster move that was made moments ago, it would appear as though either Stolarz is not available tonight, or Dennis Hildeby is being sent down.
Artur Akhtyamov gets his shot with the Toronto Maple Leafs
According to Maple Leafs PR on X, Artur Akhtyamov, a 24-year-old prospect goaltender with the Toronto Marlies, has officially been called up.
Stolarz and Hildeby were not mentioned in the announcement, although fans are reading between the lines right now to figure out who is going to play.
If the goalie tandem tonight is Hildeby and Akhtyamov, then that is a Marlies quality duo, and Leafs fans should absolutely be a bit nervous.
The Los Angeles Kings just scored five goals on the Montreal Canadiens, and they will be eager to do the same to the Leafs, who are bad on defense this season.
Whatever happens, the fans in Toronto are just praying for a win by any means necessary. The Kings could score eight, as long as the Leafs score nine.
Only time will tell whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs can overcome this predicament, and have a major game.
