On Friday, rumours began to surface that the big name that Berube may try to lure to Toronto is a former National Hockey League veteran as well as a two time NHL assistant coach in the form of Marc Savard. The forty-six-year-old Savard, who was also an assistant with the St. Louis Blues during the 20192020 season, has history with Berube, as they both coached the team at the time. Savard has had stops with the Calgary Flames and was the head coach of the Ontario Hockey League Windsor Spitfires for two seasons between 2021 & 2023.
The thing about the prospect of Savard joining Berube's staff is that they are familiar with each other, and Berube has likely already spoken to the front office and acknowledged that he would like to bring in at least one of his guys he feels will be able to do the job.
Understandably, the job of being the head coach of the Maple Leafs is far different than any other head coaching position in hockey across the world, and you're going to be scrutinized at every turn, so hopefully, by bringing in Savard, Berube, and Co. know what they're getting into and can work towards doing their best to put the product on the ice as soon as possible.
