Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matias Maccelli is going through it right now, and it doesn't seem like there is much of a path for him to succeed here.

Matias Maccelli was a promising young forward when the Maple Leafs traded for him in the Summer, although it was clear he would be a project.
The forward had 18 points last season, and going into this season, there was this sense that he may or may not improve upon his output.
So far, Maccelli has nine points in 22 games, which is decent, but certainly not good enough. In fact, head coach Craig Berube has parked him on the bench.
At a recent game, Maccelli did not look happy in the press box, and things are only getting worse for the young Finnish forward.

Matias Maccelli taken out of the Leafs lineup

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Maccelli was going to be a healthy scratch all over again. He hasn't played since November 28th, and it remains to be seen when he will get back into the lineup.
At this point, it appears as though the forward has no real path to getting into the lineup, and this is an absolute nightmare for the forward.
This was supposed to be a comeback season, and now, he can barely get back on the ice to prove himself.

Leafs head coach Craig Berube doesn't appear to be much of a Maccelli fan, and that has definitely been a barrier to him getting into the lineup.
At this point, it is unclear if Maccelli is going to remain in Toronto for the season, or eventually get traded.
