Matthew Knies Confirms Whether Or Not He's Signing an Offer Sheet in Free Agency
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies is set to become a free agent this summer, and he has a big decision to make as it pertains to offer sheets.
Matthew Knies had an amazing sophomore season with the Toronto Maple Leafs as he came through with 58 points in 78 games while playing on the top line.
Overall, he is someone that the fans love, and with his contract expiring as of July 1st, fans would love to see him get re-signed as quickly as humanly possible.
Of course, Knies is a restricted free agent, which means the only way other teams could lure him away from the Leafs is through an offer sheet. Plenty of teams will be looking to tender offer sheets his way, and this has led to some fear amongst Leafs fans.
After all, look at what happened to the Edmonton Oilers last summer as they lost two solid young players for absolutely nothing.
Is Matthew Knies re-signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs?
During the end-of-season press conference today, Knies was asked about taking an offer sheet. However, he gave an answer that will give all Leafs fans a sigh of relief.
Matthew Knies scoffs at the idea of an offer sheet. Says he's loves being a Leaf. Didn't want to say whether he prefers term or bridge.
If the Toronto Maple Leafs part ways with Mitch Marner and John Tavares, then Knies will be getting himself a pretty major payday, all things considered.
Meanwhile, the Leafs will have a young forward who they can depend on for years to come. However, the terms of the potential deal still aren't known.
While fans would love for Knies to be on the team long term, that is not a guarantee. He may only want a bridge deal in a move that would see him betting on himself.
Hopefully, this is a rare instance in which everyone gets what they want. Knies isn't the kind of kid you just let walk.
